Request a PEERRS Human Subjects Certification Waiver
Waiver Requirements
U-M personnel or external research collaborators may request a waiver of PEERRS human subjects protections training with the submission of proof for equivalent training (e.g., completion certificate) completed within the past three (3) years. The U-M PEERRS group takes reasonable action to verify that the training cited in the waiver request is equivalent in topic/content of the PEERRS training.
What are the commonly accepted training equivalents?
- Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) - Either of the basic courses for Human Subjects Protections (Biomedical or Social-Behavioral) or the refresher courses
- HHS Human Research Protection Foundational Training (5 modules)
Other institutional training may qualify for a training waiver. However, U-M does not accept Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) courses as equivalents for human subjects protection training.
Documentation Requirements
For CITI training, submit a copy of the CITI training certification report that lists the course modules completed and the completion dates of each.
If submiting multiple documents, combine them into a single PDF to upload into the webform.
